Dr. Pires’ path to pain management started at 18. The California native was a certified personal trainer motivated to help top athletes regain function and strength after surgery or accidents. After working at the renowned Michael Johnson’s personal training studio and physical therapy practice, he set his sights on becoming a physician.
After his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Dr. Pires earned his osteopathic medicine doctorate from Western University of the Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, California. He went on to complete an internship rotation at San Bernardino County Medical Center. He continued his postdoctoral clinical training with an anesthesia residency at The Riverside University Health System - Medical Center in Moreno Valley, California. Dr. Pires rounded out his postdoctoral clinical training with a pain medicine anesthesiology fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Today, he grooms the next generation of physicians at Cedars-Sinai by serving as an educator for residents and fellows. He is active in numerous professional associations, including the International Intervention Society, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the Central Coast Medical Association, the California Society of Anesthesiologists, the California Medical Association, the American Medical Association and the North American Neuromodulation Society.
